AI MURAL
SUMMARY
Kollektivet Livet and Kista Limitless produced maybe the first AI generated mural in the world in Kista, a tech heavy area in Stockholm.
Kollektivet Livet did a conceptual art project with the aim to highlight the relationship between tech, art & humanity. Our hope is that this project will invoke a debate on whom is the actual artist, the AI or the person
using it?

One of the purposes of this project was to start the discussion of where does the line go between artist and technology ? Is it just a tool or is it a thing that creates art ? Whom is the originator of the motif ? This conversation is crucial to have. Visual artists are in a critical time period, and what they do are under enormous technological strain.
THE PROCESS
We started of by gathering all involved parties core brand values and fed these values to Chat GPT & Google Bard/ Gemini asking them to, in text, tell us how they would visualize these values in a mural form. We got a vast amount of answers from them.
We then took these AI generated texts and fed to "text-to-image" AI Fire Fly. We did not alter the text prompts and only used the AI generated texts.
We fed AI all of the prompts we got!
All stakeholders got to view all results generated and together they choose the final result that was painted.
This project started spring 2023, and as we all know the advancement of AI is going in a pace that is a lot quicker then Swedish building permit bureaucracy.
All AI tools that are used where in early stages of development.
We at Kollektivet Livet have always loved new technology. Using some of the first commercial 3D printers in making statues, to hacking Microsoft kinects for public exhibitions at Historiska Museét. It doesn't matter which technology it is, the real interesting part is how you use it.
THE RESULT
The questions we asked ourselves before we started the project are mainly about copyright and artistry. We are focused on ensuring that the artists we produce receive fair remuneration, own their copyright, regardless of client.
Who is the originator of this work is an extremely interesting and philosophical question, we believe. Is this a conceptual artwork from the Kollektivet Livet? Is it Chat GPT and Google Bard/Gemini or is it Adobe Fire Fly? Or is it ultimately the person who actually painted the facade, Sagie, who is the author?
For us, the goal of the project is the debate that started around how the work came to be and that the finished mural brightens everyday life in its area for those who see it when they walk by.
Art and its origin have been debated as long as art has been created, this is a part of this debate.
